Information for the 2019-2020 Application Process


Important Dates

Third week of September: Eligibility Letters will be forwarded to counselors for distribution to eighth graders. The letters will contain students’ 7th grade NWEA MAP scores, final grades, and attendance data. The letters will also contain the Activation Code that students were issued in June. The letter will not list specific programs for which students are eligible. (A document will be accessible via the GoCPS website that shows the eligibility requirements for all schools.)


October 1: Application period begins

December 14: Application Deadline

March 2019: The date of release of High School offers has not yet been established.



GoCPS

GoCPS is the platform that allows families to apply to nearly every CPS school and program using one site, one application, and one deadline.

We believe that all of Chicago's children and their families deserve access to quality education options that meet their needs and interests, including neighborhood schools, which every child is always eligible to attend. This is central to our mission of preparing our school children for success in college, career, and civic life.

CPS offers a wide variety of school and program options for students attending high school, elementary, and preschool. GoCPS is the central hub for learning, searching, exploring, applying and being selected to them.

The High School Application Process

Applying to Programs
You can apply to up to 20 Choice Programs and up to 6 Selective Enrollment Programs. You do not have to apply to the maximum allowed number of programs. However, you should apply to as many programs as you would accept an offer from. The more programs you apply to, the more likely it is that you will receive an offer.


Don’t apply to programs that you don’t want to attend. If a school is too far from your home, or there are any other reasons why you would not accept an offer if you receive it, do not include it on your application.

You are guaranteed a seat in the general education program at your neighborhood high school. You do not have to include it on your application. However, if you know you want to attend your neighborhood school, you are encouraged to participate in the GoCPS application process and apply to this program so that the school will have an indication of which students intend to enroll.


Ranking Schools/Programs
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Be sure to rank your programs in your true order of preference. This means that you should list the program you want to attend the most as your first choice, the program you want next as your second choice, the program you want next as your third choice, and so on. Students will be considered for seats in the order that the programs are ranked on their application.

Scheduling for Admissions Screenings

All scheduling for Admissions Screenings (admissions exams, auditions, IB information sessions, and interviews) must be completed by the application deadline, even if you are scheduling for an appointment that will take place after the deadline. For example, if you are planning to take the Selective Enrollment exam on January 26, 2019, you must complete the scheduling by the December 14th application deadline.


Application Deadline

The application deadline is Friday, December 14, 2018. If you apply online, your application must be submitted by 11:59 pm. Don’t wait until the last day to apply!! You never know what might happen to delay your submission. Late applications will not be processed.


Primary Address

The address on your application must be your primary address, which is defined as your regular, fixed nighttime residence. In addition, note that it must be your primary address at the time you submit your application. You cannot use the address of a residence that you plan to move to AFTER the application deadline. The address that you enter on your application MUST be your primary address at the time that you submit your application.


Change of Residence

If you change your address after you submit your application, but before the application deadline, you must submit this address change. If you apply using the online application site, you can update your address on your online application account. If you apply via paper application, you must contact the Office of Access and Enrollment at 773-553-2060 or gocps@cps.edu to request a paper Contact Information Modification Form. In order for your new address to be used to determine tiers, attendance area boundaries, overlay boundaries, and/or proximity boundaries, your changes must be received by the Office of Access and Enrollment no later than December 14, 2018. If you receive and accept an offer, you are required to provide proof of both addresses at the time of registration.

We are designing a new website for
Taft High School

Educational Networks is currently designing a new website for Taft High School. It will look beautiful when we finish it. But it will take a few weeks.

What you are looking at is not your new website. It's just a temporary site that allows us to build the content areas while our designers are working on the new design. When the new design is finalized, all the content on this site will be automatically transferred to the new website, and this site will be closed. This way, your new website will already contain a lot of content from day one. Sounds exciting?

Although this temporary site is accessible on the Internet, it is not advertised anywhere. It is just our secret place that allows us to do our work.

Join Us! It will be fun!

We promise, you will love it! The new website will not only look beautiful, but it will be also very easy to update. It will be a place for the entire community. Not only the website administrators, but also teachers and staff members will be able to post information on their own sections. If you are a teacher, you will be able to easily create pages to introduce yourself to the community, build your own photo albums, upload videos, create class pages, and even post homework assignments that will be displayed not only on your class pages, but also emailed to the parents and students automatically every day.

How easy is it?

Very easy! If you use the most standard Internet services such as email and Facebook, or do online shopping on websites like Amazon.com, you are already qualified. No worries...

When do I start? How?

You can start right now! Whatever information you post on this temporary site will be automatically transferred to the new website when we launch it. And you can continue posting updates and even more information afterwards whenever you like.

Just log in if you have already been provided your login credentials. If not, call our technical support team at (866) 473-0400 so that we can create your account. It will take only a minute.

The rest will be easy. Upload your profile photo, create as many new pages as you wish, create your classes, photo albums, and even your own video gallery.

After each update, come back to this website, and refresh. You will see that all the information you posted is displayed on this temporary website. And when we officially launch the new website, everything will be transferred automatically in no time!
