CURRENT AC STUDENTS & PARENTS:  SUBSCRIBE TO THE Taft AC EMAIL LIST!

ATTENTION NEW STUDENTS ACCEPTED INTO THE ACADEMIC CENTER FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2019-2020!
We know this is a big decision to make for you and your family. We will be hosting a Taft AC Meet and Greet on Tuesday, April 30th at 6:30pm in the auditorium. We will have a presentation about the Taft Academic Center, we hope you can make it!

Taft Academic Center is an International Baccalaureate Candidate School
The Academic Center at Taft High School is a unique program offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum.   The six-year IB sequence is designed for advanced students who have demonstrated high academic potential.  Students complete the MYP curriculum, which emphasizes intellectual challenge and encourages students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world.  All Taft Academic Center students are accepted into Taft's selective enrollment IB Diploma Programme.

How is the Taft Academic Center-IB Middle Years Programme Unique?
Taft is the only high school to offer a six-year IB education that focuses on:
  • Interdisciplinary units
  • Accelerated education
  • Development of the whole student
  • Real-world connections
  • International-mindedness
  • International standards of excellence
  • Service within the community
International Baccalaureate Teacher Training
To be considered to teach gifted/talented students in the Academic Centers, high-quality teachers are selected who have participated in a myriad of training. Our teachers are extensively trained and certified by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Continued professional development is required for candidate and authorized IB World schools.  Training has also been offered through Gifted Education Seminars, Advanced Gifted Institutes, and Summer Best Practice Workshops.  The IB MYP highlights teacher collaboration to plan interdisciplinary lessons and align curriculum.  The goal for Academic Center courses is to link lessons through multiple disciplines and tie classroom lessons to real world application.
Taft Academic Center Highlights:
  • We challenge gifted students with high school classes that are comprehensive and offer integration with their future high school classes.
  • Taft Academic Center values a well-rounded education. Each student completes the core curriculum, a Design course, a choice of foreign language and an elective (Art, Band, or Drama) each year.
  • The students’ outstanding achievements on standardized assessments show consistent academic success.
  • Teachers embrace best practice for instructing gifted students and participate in common planning to integrate lessons between subjects while adhering to the MYP framework and assessment criteria.
  • Our teaching staff is experienced in working with gifted students in grades 7 and 8. As a staff, they provide a variety of learning experiences to maximize student’s academic potential.
  • The social and emotional well-being of our gifted students is an important consideration. We have a dedicated counselor for Academic Center students; students will keep this same counselor as they enter 9th grade.
  • Academic Center students can choose from over 100 high school sports and clubs
  • We participate in many school field trips. Past field trips have been to Steppenwolf Theater, Shakespeare Theater, Holocaust Museum, Team Building adventures and others. Many field trips are tied to classroom curriculum and foster International-mindedness.
Transportation
Currently, transportation is provided to students who reside more than 1.5 miles from the school. Students are assigned to a neighborhood school for their designated pick-up and drop-off location.  For questions in regards to transportation, please contact Mary Kay Cobb at (773) 534-9926.

We are designing a new website for
Taft High School

Educational Networks is currently designing a new website for Taft High School. It will look beautiful when we finish it. But it will take a few weeks.

What you are looking at is not your new website. It's just a temporary site that allows us to build the content areas while our designers are working on the new design. When the new design is finalized, all the content on this site will be automatically transferred to the new website, and this site will be closed. This way, your new website will already contain a lot of content from day one. Sounds exciting?

Although this temporary site is accessible on the Internet, it is not advertised anywhere. It is just our secret place that allows us to do our work.

Join Us! It will be fun!

We promise, you will love it! The new website will not only look beautiful, but it will be also very easy to update. It will be a place for the entire community. Not only the website administrators, but also teachers and staff members will be able to post information on their own sections. If you are a teacher, you will be able to easily create pages to introduce yourself to the community, build your own photo albums, upload videos, create class pages, and even post homework assignments that will be displayed not only on your class pages, but also emailed to the parents and students automatically every day.

How easy is it?

Very easy! If you use the most standard Internet services such as email and Facebook, or do online shopping on websites like Amazon.com, you are already qualified. No worries...

When do I start? How?

You can start right now! Whatever information you post on this temporary site will be automatically transferred to the new website when we launch it. And you can continue posting updates and even more information afterwards whenever you like.

Here is how:

Go to: http://tafths.enadmin.org

Just log in if you have already been provided your login credentials. If not, call our technical support team at (866) 473-0400 so that we can create your account. It will take only a minute.

The rest will be easy. Upload your profile photo, create as many new pages as you wish, create your classes, photo albums, and even your own video gallery.

After each update, come back to this website, and refresh. You will see that all the information you posted is displayed on this temporary website. And when we officially launch the new website, everything will be transferred automatically in no time!

If you need any help, call our support team at (866) 473-0400.

Welcome to Educational Networks! We look forward to seeing your pages and hearing from you!
