Social Studies: Individuals and Societies
Hello Students and Parents!
Welcome to the new school year at William Taft High School. I am honored to be a member of Taft H.S. and the IB (International Baccalaureate) World Community. Teachers, students, and parents work together to nurture and support the goals of the IB programmes. "The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world."
This year, I look forward to working with all of you as we learn and grow together as a cohesive team. In both my IBCP-PPS class and my IBMYP -World History classes, we will address reading, writing, speaking and listening skills within the context of the Social Studies curriculum. Students will be intellectually challenged in a safe and welcoming learning environment. Consistent with the IB learner profile, I ask that you keep an open mind and place your trust in me. I will motivate and encourage you to grow as a student, and as a human being. I will challenge your thinking and writing as we pose, discuss, and ultimately answer higher order inquiry questions. This is going to be an intellectually stimulating and exciting year!
Parents, I am available to address any questions or concerns you may have. Communication can take place via email, phone calls, or in person. I have created a class website for both classes to complement the learning taking place in the classroom, but also to improve the school-home connection. I trust we will communicate constantly to ensure that this is a successful school year for all.
